Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction Norris Police Department, responded to a potentially life-threatening report that a male was inside Norris Elementary School with a gun. Their quick thinking and coordinated response ensured that the situation was contained, and the school was placed on lockdown. Deputy Sheriffs, along with law enforcement personnel from Norris Police, carried out a thorough investigation while students and teachers alike were kept safe.

As an additional precautionary measure, Norris Middle School and Anderson County High School were also placed on lockdown while a thorough investigation was carried out. The investigation revealed the report was false, and the team of law enforcement personnel was able to locate the juveniles responsible for the hoax. The juveniles were taken into custody, and transported to Richard L. Bean juvenile detention center.

“The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and Norris Police Department played a commendable role in the case, heightening our trust and confidence in law enforcement personnel’s ability to protect us, even amidst external threats.” said Chief Mike Poole of the Norris Police Department. Sheriff Barker added, “We are grateful for the Deputies and Officers prompt response in averting any potential danger posed by the incident.”

Both Chief Poole and Sheriff Barker commended the response and actions of the school staff at all locations.
