Chuck Fleischmann advocates for HALT Fentanyl Act amid opioid crisis

Chuck Fleischmann, a U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 3rd district since 2011, has recently expressed his support for the HALT Fentanyl Act through a series of tweets. Fleischmann, who was born in New York City and currently resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, shared his thoughts on the legislation aimed at combating the fentanyl crisis.

On February 6, 2025, Fleischmann tweeted about his pride in cosponsoring the HALT Fentanyl Act. He emphasized that the act "increases penalties for trafficking illegal fentanyl and gives police tools to stop the fentanyl epidemic." He highlighted the urgency of addressing this issue by stating that "hundreds of Americans die daily due to fentanyl overdoses" and stressed the need to do everything possible to end this crisis. "I'm proud to cosponsor the HALT Fentanyl Act..."

Later that day, he attributed part of the blame for the fentanyl overdose crisis to "the previous Administration's purposeful open borders policies." According to Fleischmann, these policies allowed drugs to flow freely into the nation. He called on Congress to pass the HALT Fentanyl Act as a measure to build on former President Trump's efforts while current President Biden works "to resecure our borders." In a subsequent tweet on February 6th, Fleischmann announced that "The HALT Fentanyl Act has officially passed the House!" He reiterated that "@HouseGOP will always work to protect our nation from illegal drugs and evil drug cartels who smuggle fentanyl into our country," underscoring his commitment and that of his party towards combating drug-related issues affecting Americans.
