Carson-Newman women's tennis (0-7) drops its matchup with Lenoir-Rhyne (7-6) with a final score of 5-2 on Wednesday, Mar. 8th.
Julia Speiser and Summer Reeves were both able to notch a point for the Eagles. Carson-Newman won its fifth doubles match of the season in a matchup featuring Reeves and Mollie Edge.
Doubles
Speiser and Natasha Forrest lined up in the one position for the Eagles against Alicia Wahlberg and Lucy Whelan. The Bears won the set 6-4.
Reeves and Edge took on Eveniya Pugina and Jessica Fuchs in the two spot. The Eagles took down the Bears 6-4. Reeves and Edge advanced to 1-1 as a duo.
Carson-Newman forfeited the final doubles set, awarding Lenoir-Rhyne the doubles point.
Single
Reeves captured the first point of the day for Carson-Newman when she lined up against Whelan in the three. Reeves won the first game 6-4 but lost 6-4 in the second. Reeves bounced back in the third with a score of 6-3.
Speiser took on Natalie Lutz in the four spot. The pair played in just a single game. Speiser won 8-7 in the tightly contested matchup. The junior advances 1-1 when lining up in the four spot this season.
Anita Chornei saw her first action of the day when she faced Pugina in the one spot. The pair swapped 6-3 scores in the first two games, but Pugina was able to pull away by four to win the tiebreaker.
Mollie Edge closed out the day's singles action with a matchup against Sandy Mitsou in the five spot. Edge won the first game 7-5, but Mitsou responded with a 6-2 victory. The Bear completed the comeback with a 7-5 game.
Carson-Newman will look for their first win when they head to Gaffney, S.C., for a matchup with Limestone.
