Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center was recognized as Scott County’s second largest nursing home for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility provided 56 beds, which is 20 fewer than the county average for the period, and assisted an average of 41.2 residents each day.

The most recent CMS data assigned Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, beneath Tennessee’s average rating of 3 for nursing homes.

Huntsville Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center held the top spot in Scott County in the quarter, offering 96 available beds.

The center incurred one penalty and paid a total of $52,111 in fines as of the first quarter of 2026.

Scott County, Tennessee, had two for-profit nursing homes during this period.

New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the population of older adults in the United States is increasing, while the number of children continues to decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas the population under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population expanded significantly across the last 100 years, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study finds that nearly half of older adults—around 28 million—may eventually require long-term services and supports, with projections indicating that more than a third could need nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
