Chuck Fleischmann, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 3rd district since 2011, recently expressed his views on the Department of Energy and its policies under different administrations through a series of tweets.
On May 7, 2025, Fleischmann tweeted that “The Department of @ENERGY is critical to America’s security and prosperity. I applaud @SecretaryWright and President Trump for their firm commitment to reverse the previous Administration’s harmful policies and regulatory overreach to unleash American energy dominance.” This statement highlights his support for the current administration’s approach to energy policy.
Later that day, he acknowledged Secretary Wright’s appearance before his subcommittee in another tweet. On May 7, 2025, he wrote: “I thank @SecretaryWright for appearing before my subcommittee today and answering mine and my colleague’s questions. We need to accelerate the availability of new and diverse domestic uranium enrichment capacity and increase our ability to reprocess spent nuclear fuel.” Fleischmann emphasized the importance of advancing domestic uranium enrichment capabilities.
In another post from May 7, 2025, Fleischmann criticized spending under the previous administration by stating: “In the final days of the Biden Admin, DOE shoveled nearly $100 billion out the door to fund partisan Green New Deal projects that don’t deliver results. Under the Trump Admin, DOE is ending the cycle of reckless spending & returning DOE to its mission.” Here he contrasts past fiscal decisions with current efforts to align with what he describes as DOE’s core mission.
Fleischmann has been serving in Congress since replacing Zach Wamp in 2011. He was born in New York City in 1962 and resides in Chattanooga. He holds degrees from both University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of Tennessee.
