Diversicare of Oak Ridge was the county’s second largest nursing home during the first quarter of 2026, sharing the position with The Waters of Clinton, LLC, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The nursing center offered 120 beds, two above the Anderson County average as of the first quarter of 2026, and reported serving 80.9 residents per day over the same period.

CMS assigned Diversicare of Oak Ridge an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which is below the statewide Tennessee average of 3 for nursing homes.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the older adult population is rising as younger groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the U.S. saw the population age 65 and over increase by 13%, while the number of those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the century, the older adult segment surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024, according to census reports.

A 2021 analysis found nearly half of Americans in this age bracket—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and support, with over a third expected to require nursing home care eventually.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
