U.S. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, who represents Tennessee’s 3rd district, used his social media account to criticize Democratic lawmakers for their role in the ongoing federal government shutdown. In a series of posts on November 4 and 5, 2025, Fleischmann described the consequences of the shutdown and called for Senate Democrats to act.
On November 4, Fleischmann wrote: “Democrats just voted for the 14th time to keep our government closed and not pay our air traffic controllers and TSA Agents.
The Democrat Government Shutdown is causing havoc at airports and in the skies right before the busy holiday travel season.
Democrat politicians must end https://t.co/vemVS2oLrh“
The following day, he continued his criticism by highlighting conversations with constituents affected by the shutdown. On November 5, he posted: “While Democrats continue their Government Shutdown, my @HouseAppropsGOP colleagues and I have been meeting with the real Americans paying the price for Democrats’ Government Shutdown.
I’ve met with small business owners, federal workers, and Tennesseans who rely on federal https://t.co/GpRzJIqpNJ“
Later that same day, Fleischmann addressed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer directly: “Chuck Schumer has dragged America into a sixth week of this Democrat Government Shutdown, the longest in US history. The impact has been horrific, and it will only get worse.
It is time for Senate Democrats to DO THEIR JOB and reopen the federal government. https://t.co/2Ij2h5tR83“
Fleischmann has represented Tennessee’s 3rd District in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Zach Wamp. Born in New York City in 1962, he resides in Chattanooga. He holds degrees from both the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (BA) and the University of Tennessee (JD).
The current shutdown marks six weeks without resolution—the longest such closure recorded in U.S. history—impacting air travel operations and affecting various sectors reliant on federal support.
